OfflineHi Steve, Ingrid has this little girl, 6 years old, with asthma and elevated testosterone. The parents found that she had pubic hair starting to grow since age 4. At the M.D. they found overactive adrenals (according to the patient) resulting in higher than normal testosterone. I found casein allergy which corrolate with the indicators for the lungs. Could a food allergy cause an elevated testosterone? what else should I look for?
Thanks
Pat
Sure a food allergy could cause elevated testosterone. The body makes histamine as a response to a food allergy and that in turn provokes a cortisol response from the adrenal glands. The elevated cortisol levels, over time, will result in blood sugar handling problems. As you know, blood sugar handing problems, and eventually insulin resistance, results in higher testosterone levels in females. (Elevated testosterone is actually the #1 reason for PCOS – polycystic ovaries – in women.)
Make sure that kid eats only hormone-free meats too.
